Meditation can take many forms. It can consist of focusing on the breath; on thoughts as they come and go; or it can become extremely advanced and specialised.

Whether we know it or not, we have all meditated in some form or other: staring into a fire; watering the garden; staring at the waves on the beach; listening to the hypnotic sound of the waves as they roll onto the sand....these are all forms of meditation that we do unconsciously and feel more relaxed as a result. Meditation can be as simple as you want.

The popularity meditation has gained recently comes as a result of people discovering just how beneficial it can be in their lives. It is a way of alleviating the stress of modern life and reclaiming the spiritual void that is so prevalent in our society today.

I teach meditation for beginners in small groups during the school term. We sit in chairs, (although you are welcome to sit on the floor if you wish) and I take you through a guided relaxation which teaches your body to relax. Because we lead such stressful lives our body is on high alert much of the time so we need to teach it how to relax, just like we taught it how to ride a bike. We don't sit and meditate for the entire hour and a half, I will take your through a short guided visualisation which we will discuss afterwards. We do about three meditations each week and then slowly build on what you have learnt, so that you can then meditate on your own at home.

I have had 100% success...everyone has been able to meditate in the first lesson.

MEDITATION CIRCLE

A Meditation Circle is held on the first Monday of each month at 10am and 7pm for those who have had some experience meditating.

All are welcome, although bookings are essential as places are limited.

Circle starts on 1st February, 2010 at 7pm

Put these dates in your diary:

1st March; 5th April; 3rd May; 7th June; 5th July; 2nd August; 6th September;

4th October; 1st November; 6th December.
